Palagruža
Home to over 200 endemic plant species and adapted wildlife
Palagruža, situated in the Adriatic Sea within the municipality of Komiža, forms an archipelago of numerous islands and islets. It boasts a distinctive geological profile and enjoys the mildest climate, fostering the growth of subtropical vegetation unique to Croatia.
Home to over 200 endemic plant species and adapted wildlife, the prominent Vela Palagruža Island features a 92 m high and 300 m wide narrow gorge ridge, with steep shores and two sandy coves. The surrounding islands, including Mala Palagruža and the Kamik rock, contribute to the area's geological diversity.
Three miles away lies Galijula, the southernmost point in Croatia, known for measuring storm waves reaching up to 9 meters. Additionally, Palagruža holds a poignant story of donkeys, with two reportedly taking their own lives due to the challenges of cargo transport on the island.
